time/tide is a kinetic text work where words break apart and reform to create relational meanings—metaphorical, philosophical, and psychological, rather than scientific or literal. TIME and TIDE are uncontrollable external forces, while ID and ME are rooted in human experience and the psyche. None are fixed and all are subject to change. The variations summon exterior and interior realms, dissolving boundaries while focusing on our interconnectedness.

The first word frontally presented is TIME, the M turns 180 degrees to present the D, which forms TIDE, and then the T and E turn to present ID, and last in the 4-part sequence, ID turns to show ME. Correlations are formed between TIME and TIDE; ID and ME, and the interrelationality between all four.

Each letter box is a 4-sided open glass box with sandblasted text. When the boxes are aligned, the inner channel forms an intentional line of continuity—imagined as a river or passageway that is activated and interrupted by the rotating boxes.
